Becoming a Registered Nurse

Every nurse employed in the UK should be in the registers of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). The NMC follows stringent norms in the verification and scrutiny of the documents submitted by every applicant for the registration process. To be eligible to initiate the registration process with the NMC, a nurse should fulfil the following prerequisites:

Eligibility: GNM/B.Sc /Post B.Sc/M.Sc (Nursing)

English Proficiency Certificate

English Proficiency Certificate IELTS/UKVI IELTS (Academic) with minimum scores of 6.5 in Writing and 7 in Listening, Reading and Speaking.

OET with minimum scores of C+ in Writing and B in Listening, Reading and Speaking

(OR)

Registration and practice of at least one year in a country where English is the first and native language.

Work Permit (VISA)

An employer has to sponsor candidates, or the candidates must have a valid visa to work as a nurse In the UK. The employer will issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS) confirming the candidate's employment. Then, the candidate has to submit an application to the UK embassy in the respective country for entry clearance to the UK. The approved visa will be a three-year work permit under the Tier 2 General category. The hired nurses are required to work a minimum of 37.5 hours a week with your sponsor under this category. In addition, nurses are allowed to work 20 hours a week with a second employer. The application for a Permanent Residency (PR) can be submitted at the end of five years of employment. Dependents (married partners & children) will have the same rights as prime candidates. Further information can be obtained from the home office website.

Relocation Package

The relocation package is a dedicated financial and_ infrastructural support provided by the NHS trusts/ employers to support the legitimate expenses incurred by nurses to move from their home country to the UK. In general, the following expenses are covered under the relocation package for overseas nurses, and it may vary with every employer respectively:

  • Earn starting salary of 30 lakhs per year and wil be increased accordingly to the experience.
  • Eligibility for Permanent Residency PR on completion of 5 years.
  • Free education and medical service.
  • OET, OSCE, CBT exam fee will be refunded by the employer.
  • Air ticket will be refunded and more.
  • Sometimes, the employer also assists with family VISA processing, at their discretion
